Jim Lindsay

Born and bred in the Kingdom of Fife, Jim has lived for the past 30 years near Perth on the edge of the Scottish Highlands. Becoming Scottish Accordion Champion in the early seventies while still a teenager gained him early recognition and the opportunity to work with many of the legendary names from the golden era of Scottish dance music. Consistently throughout the intervening period up to the present day, Jim has been one of the most respected and ‘in demand’ musicians on the Scottish music scene. You will find him on the credits for countless recordings including several for the RSCDS. Recent recordings include 3 dance CDs with Muriel Johnstone’s band. Jim has played all the major ball venues across the UK and you may recognise him as a regular at the RSCDS summer school in St. Andrews where over some 25 years he played with ‘The Olympians’, Bobby Crowe and latterly Ron Kerr. In parallel with his career in Scottish dance music, Jim is also renowned for his innovative arrangements. His own band’s popular brand of listening music is regularly featured on the BBC and on his critically acclaimed ‘Free Hand’ CD. Although he has toured extensively in Europe, Jim has played only once in North America, for the New York Branch’s Jeannie Carmichael Ball. This is Jim’s first opportunity to perform in Canada and he is looking forward immensely to a memorable weekend.
